Canadian Mining corp. to resume Zimbabwe operations

By Staff Reporter
Zimbabwe International News, Canada

Caledonia Mining Corp., a Toronto miner with international operations, says it will soon resume operations at the Blanket Gold Mine in Zimbabwe.

The company said Friday it has received the necessary licences from the Zimbabwean government to restart gold production.

"The re-commencement of gold production at Blanket is a very positive development for Caledonia," said Stefan Hayden, president and CEO of Caledonia Gold.

"Blanket has managed to retain the bulk of its skilled workforce since it was forced to temporarily suspend operations in October 2008 and accordingly is in a good position to recommence production rapidly."

The company said that if a stable operating and monetary environment is maintained in Zimbabwe, the Blanket mine should produce up to 40,000 ounces of gold a year in 2010.

In trading Friday, on the TSX, Caledonia shares rose one cent to 6.5 cents, a gain of 18.2 per cent.
