On Wednesday, after officially announcing the 93rd Oscar shortlist of nine categories, India officially dropped out of the race for Best International Feature Film. Malayalam movie Jallikattu Lijo was India’s official entry for the Oscars from the said category directed by Jose Pelisserie. However, on the bright side, Karisma Dev Dubey directs Bittu Has made it a live action short film shortlist.
The academy on Wednesday morning announced the shortlist for the following categories: international feature film, documentary, original score, original song, makeup and hairstyle, visual effects, live-action short film, documentary short theme and animated short film. Shortlisted films will compete for nominations.
Malayalam movie Jallikattu Much appreciated in India, but it failed to make a long shortlist of fifteen films that would compete to make it to the nomination. It is based on Haresh’s short story titled Maoist. The film stars Antony Varghese, Chamban Vinod Jose, Sabuman Abdussamad and Sainthi Balachandran. Films from 93 countries were eligible in this category, the highest in Oscar history.
talking about Bittu, The film directed by Karishma Dev Dubey is one of the top 10 short films, making it to the next level of Oscar 2021. The film tells the story of a heartfelt friendship between two school going friends and is based on a true story.
