Mandira Bedi on her daughter’s first day: Tara sat on Rraj’s lap and said chalo

They say that when you want something, the universe conspires to help you achieve it. For Mandira Bedi, the four-year-old daughter Tara is the manifestation of that long-held belief. On Dussehra, Bedi and husband Rraj Kaushal took to Instagram to introduce their daughter to the world.

She reveals that Tara joined their family on July 28, but according to adoption protocol, they couldn’t immediately share the good news. “When a child comes home, it is considered foster care for the first month, and the family cannot make an announcement until all legalities have been finalized. But it was worth the wait.

She has changed our lives; we are back in the world of children’s songs ”, says a delighted Bedi.

The bundle of joy is from Tikamgarh, Madhya Pradesh. “We had a few video calls with her earlier. She kept asking, ‘When are you coming? During these times of COVID-19, my husband made two trips to Tikamgarh. When he reached the adoption center, she sat on his lap and said, “Chalo.” He took her to Jabalpur airport, where my son was [Vir] and I joined them. “

The change of scenery was difficult for Tara at first – the actor remembers not speaking a word on her first day. “Now she’s completely opened up. We see her laughing more, playing more and chatting more.”

In their early marriage years, Kaushal and Bedi had decided to have one biological child and adopt another. In 2017, the actor – then in the middle of the adoption process – had told mid-day that the couple’s combined biological age was not in their favor (Mandira Bedi and Rraj Kaushal in a race against time to adopt). But their quiet determination over the past three years has paid off. In the adoption form you can name three states from which you would like your child to come. We had randomly selected Maharashtra, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. Our papers may have jammed as a result. As soon as we [lifted] added the criterion and some updates, things fell into place quickly. Adoption is a time consuming process with a lot of paperwork. But the requirements are understandable; you must prove your competence before taking on the responsibility of a child. I wish more people would take the plunge and give a child the chance to have a good life. “
