Bhumi Pednekar, a strong advocate of environmental conservation through her Climate Warrior initiative, is partnering with BBC Earth for Young Earth Champion, a nationwide competition for climate-conscious students. “I think all of humanity needs to wake up to the fact that we need nature more than it needs us and that is reason enough why we should strive to protect it. While this is not a sole proprietorship, every little one should step towards a sustainable future counts, ”says the actor.
The competition is open to class five to nine students who are required to submit entries for the most innovative ideas that make cities and communities more sustainable. Pednekar will work with an expert to select the Young Earth Champion to appear on the channel. Top 10 winners will interact virtually with the Durgamati (2020) actor for a discussion about their contribution to saving the environment. “We give children a platform to lead by example and bring about change. I urge the young people, who have an environmentally conscious mind and the heart of a climate warrior, to come forward with their innovative ideas,” she adds to it.
The actress has made every effort to save the environment. Bhumi has also become a vegetarian, and she owes her climate-conscious journey for allowing her to make this life choice. The actress said, “For years I had the desire to become a vegetarian, but breaking habits is the hardest thing to do. My journey with Climate Warrior taught me a lot and I just didn’t feel like eating meat anymore.”
“Every year we hear about species extinction, wildfires raging around the world and melting ice caps, all leading to ecological imbalances in nature. I want people to understand that climate change is real.”
