New plans come with the new year. As we turn the calendar to 2021, the creators of Sooryavanshi and 83 have begun charting the way forward for the two Bollywood biggies, who have been waiting in the wings for a theatrical outing for the past 10 months. The creators plan to release one of the event films during the Holi weekend.
83 were originally going to be released in the summer of 2020
Shibasish Sarkar, CEO of the Reliance Entertainment group, which financed the films, said: “The situation in the country is improving, as is the economy, so the mood is mostly positive. Some of the people went to the cinema to hear Tenet. and Wonder Woman 1984. That was an encouraging sign. So now we’re looking forward to releasing one of the movies in the third week of March, during Holi. However, we have yet to decide on the movie. “He hopes that the situation will improve further with the roll-out of the vaccine around the corner. “These are event films that would have made Rs 300 crore under normal circumstances, so we cannot play with them. We have to be sure of the situation.”
Master will hit screens on January 13
In March, it will take exactly one year for the Akshay Kumar starrer originally planned as a Gudi Padwa 2020 offering. “We were supposed to release Sooryavanshi on March 24 and April 83. If we follow the same order, Sooryavanshi should come first. That said, we’ll discuss the details.”

Sarkar reveals that Vijay’s Tamil release, Master, will serve as a precursor to help them measure the market. Following the star’s meeting with Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami in December, the government of Tamil Nadu allowed 100 percent occupancy of theaters – a move that was widely criticized by front-line workers and the public alike. On Wednesday, the center ordered the government of Tamil Nadu to withdraw its order, stating that it was diluting the Union Ministry of Interior guidelines. “We are waiting for the January 13 release. There are four to five major releases in Tamil and Telugu cinema. There is tremendous confidence in the makers and the public,” Sarkar reasons.
