ANGREZI MEDIUM only works due to the chemistry of Irrfan Khan and Deepak Dobriyal and some touching moments.

Education-based films may not seem like profitable ventures, but over the years, many such films have had successful successes such as Super 30. [2019], CHHICHHORE [2019] And hiccups [2018]. And the film that started this trend in recent times was HINDI MEDIUM [2017]. The film was a successful success due to its message, realism, humor and performance. And now producer Dinesh Vijan is coming back with the second part of this franchise, titled ANGREZI MEDIUM. The film has been eagerly awaited mainly as it marks a comeback of sorts for Irrfan Khan after being diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumors. So what affects ANGREZI MEDIUM, entertainment and Hindi MEDIUM? Or does it fail to impress? Let us analyze.

Angrei Madame is a story of unconditional love between a father and a daughter. Champak (Irrfan Khan) is the single parent of Tarika (Radhika Madan) and is based in Udaipur. His brother is Gopi (Deepak Dobriyal) and though the two love each other dearly, they are also involved in a legal feud. Both run a shop named Ghasiram Sweets and both claim to be the original shop that has been running for generations. The case reaches the court where Justice Chheda (Zakir Hussain) gives the verdict in favor of Gopi. In a drunken state, Gopi later revealed that he had bribed the judge, which led to him winning the case. Gajju (Kiku Sharda), a friend of the brothers, recorded this statement. Meanwhile, Tarika is an average student and wishes to win the scholarship offered by her school which will take her to London. She works hard and manages to achieve 85% and this makes her eligible for a UK scholarship. An honor ceremony is organized for the occasion. The chief guest here is none other than Justice Chheda. Champak, angrily, informs the crowd of Chheda’s nefarious activities, not realizing that Chheda is the husband of the school principal (Meghna Malik). The Principal, angrily, cancels Tarika’s scholarship. Champak promised Tariqa that he could get him admitted, that too in the college of his choice in London. Sadly, Tarika failed to get admission from other quotas. Gopi suggests to Champak that he contact his childhood friend Bablu (Ranveer Shorey), who is based in London. Bablu comes to Udaipur on a plane ticket sponsored by Champak. He tells Champak that he can help him gain British citizenship after which Tariqa can easily get admission. Champak, Gopi and Tariqa arrive at London Airport. Here, Champak and Gopi are mistaken for drug dealers. He is sent back to India while Tarika is stranded in London. What happens next makes the rest of the film.

The story of Bhavesh Mandaliya, Gaurav Shukla, Vinay Chawal and Sara Bodinar seems interesting on paper. His screenplay, however, does not live up to expectations. Although the writers get the father-daughter bond right, the other tracks are not sure and are not necessarily sure. The dialogues by Bhavesh Mandaliya, Gaurav Shukla, Vinay Chawal and Sara Bodinar are decent and some one-liners are funny.

Homi Adjania’s direction is decent. They get brownie points for scenes involving Champak and Gopi as these scenes and enhance their performance impact. Also, Champak and Tarika scenes will be liked in some places. Indian audiences, especially middle-aged and senior citizens, often engage with children’s messages after adults turn. On the flipside, the film has a lot of subparts that are difficult to digest. Listeners will find it strange that Champak and Gopi are business rivals and even fighting it in court. But at the same time, they drink alcohol and hang out together like best friends. Not only this, Gopi also has no objection when Champak leaked his video, where the latter said he had bribed the judge! The way Champak and Gopi were pulled out of the misunderstanding seems stupid. Tarika, meanwhile, settles in London and gets a job and a house even before she makes her entrance. Not even once does she ask Champak how they will buy the money. Also, the track of Naina and her mother Mrs Kohli (Dimple Kapadia) is completely undesired. The audience never finds out why they are at the woodcutter.

The English Madame begins on an average note, reflecting the life of Champak and Tarika, and also the quarrel between Champak and Gopi. The latter part however seems as sinister as their love-hate relationship. Here some scenes stand like a drunken girl who accuses Champak of being drunk, insanity in court and at a school function. The father-daughter bond touches the audience. The timeout point is uncorrelated. After Interval, the film falls into place thanks to a number of misleading events and too many subplots. Thankfully some budding novels stand out here in moments as Tarika transforms her T-shirt into a crop top to fit among her new London friends, Gopi ties Champak to her bed and Champak and Gopi Saving Mrs Kohli and later singing the Happy Birthday song. For him. Also the finale can make the audience shed tears.

Speaking of performances, Irrfan Khan gives a peak performance. He is fully in form and ensures that he makes the audience laugh and moist. Deepak Dobriyal is also brilliant and his chemistry with Irrfan saves the film to a great extent. Radhika Madan has a good screen presence and gives a good performance. However, his dialogue delivery is difficult to understand in some places. Kareena Kapoor Khan looks great, but she is underestimated and the same is done for Dimple Kapadia. Ranveer Shorey gets some scope in the second half and Excel. Pankaj Tripathi (Tony) tries a lot but manages to get a laugh. Kiku Sharda is trustworthy. Zakir Hussain, Meghna Malik, Manu Rishi (Bheluram), Ankit Bisht (Anmol) and Manish Gandhi (Advaita) are fine. Tilottama Shome (Counselor) leaves a mark and deserves more screen time.

Sachin-Jigar’s music is disappointing. ‘Ek life ‘ Works well according to situation. The rest of the songs are forgettable. However, Sachin-Jigar’s background score is much better.

Anil Mehta’s cinematography is appropriate. Smriti Chauhan’s costumes are real and her transformation is effective after Radhika moves to London. The production design of Bindiya Chhabria is quite good. Editing a Shrikar Prasad is nothing great and suffers due to flaws in the script.

Overall, ANGREZI MEDIUM only works due to the chemistry of Irrfan Khan and Deepak Dobriyal and also some touching moments. At the box office, the goodwill of Hindi MEDIUM and the return of Irrfan will ensure a good run for the film over the weekend.
