Our long freedom struggle saga is full of innumerable stories of bravery and valor. Sadly, some of them are lost in the pages of history or have only local awareness. Uyalwara Narasimha Reddy is a great man who is credited with fighting a decisive battle a decade before the 1857 rebellion. Ram Charan takes the challenge of making a film on this figure, titled SYE RAA NARASIMHA REDDY, and features his father, megastar Chiranjeevi. Presented by actors from other industries and it is a SYA RAA Narasimha REDDY all India film to be released in Hindi and other editions. So does SYA RAA Narasimha Reddy manage to entertain and stir the audience? Or does it fail to impress? Let us analyze.
SYA RAA Narasimha Reddy is the story of the first chapter of India’s freedom struggle. The year is 1857. Rani Lakshmibai (Anushka Shetty) soldiers are wondering if a handful of them will be able to compete with the British Army. To inspire her, Rani narrates the story of Bahadur Narasimha Reddy (Chiranjeevi) who revolted against the British a decade before the Revolt of 1857. The story then goes into flashback mode. Narasimha Reddy is the ruler of a part of the region called Rayalaseema in South India. He is a part of a polygon that includes many other rulers such as Avuku Raju (Sudeep), Bassi Reddy (Ravi Kishan) etc. All these kings receive pension from the British and are expected to be courteous to the Crown. Narasimha Reddy however disagrees with this system and is looking for a way to free his kingdom from the clutches of the British. The region has to face drought and to appease the Gods of rain, Guru Gosai Venkanna (Amitabh Bachchan) of Narasimha Reddy seeks help from them. Yajna To be held. Narasimha is shocked as he comes to know that a similar yajna was done in his childhood last time and he was married to Siddhamma (Nayantara) at that time. But the married couple were separated because A. ‘Dosh’ In their union and they could reunite only after one Yajna. Narasimha Reddy is first devastated when he falls in love with Lakshmi (Tamannaah Bhatia). With a heavy mind, Narasimha Reddy leaves Lakshmi and advises her to use her dancing talent for the greater good. He then accepts Siddhamma and begins his married life. Despite the drought, British officer Jackson (Oscar Skagerberg) demanded tax from farmers. He makes fun of them and once he is doing this, Narasimha Reddy comes and teaches him a lesson. An angry Jackson enters a village ceremony and ends up with 5 farmers and a child. Narasimha Reddy is so angry that he enters the British colony, attacks the soldiers and then kills Jackson. The other rulers of the polygamy at first refuse to help him but then involve Narasimha Reddy to challenge the powerful British Empire. What happens next is the rest of the story.
The story of Parchuri Brothers is excellent and makes for a grand, patriotic film. He has clearly fictionalized a lot of developments in the plot but it is very well done. Surender Reddy’s screenplay is initially confusing as many characters are introduced and it can be difficult to understand who is actually related to whom. But in later scenes, the script is quite effective and packs a punch. The dialogues of Manoj Muntashir and Jitendra Pawar are sharp, though some of them are over the top.
Surender Reddy’s direction is quite comprehensive and simple. Most of the important scenes are well executed and leave a lasting impression. He meets the emotions of the audience beautifully. One cannot help hating the British for their atrocities and one cannot help Narasimha Reddy to help her. On the flipside, the initial parts are strictly average. The film runs very fast, as it is already too long at 171 minutes and therefore, some scenes do not produce the desired effect. There is also BAAHUBALI, Hollywood Broom 300 and even surprisingly a DJ Wu of The Avengers and it was avoidable in many places.
The early parts of SYA RAA Narasimha Reddy are not very impressive. The action is neither great nor terrible – it is somewhere in between. The first 30-40 minutes are spent introducing characters, settings, locations, and more. Siddham’s entry gives a spectacular twist to the story. But some developments are difficult to digest at this point. Siddhamma remembers her marriage, which took place in childhood, without fail, but Narasimha Reddy does not even know that she is married! However, the film actually picks up the scene where Jackson arrives at a farm and makes fun of a farmer. The way Narasimha Reddy gives a monologue and challenges Jackson is Clapworthy. However, the intermission order is even better and viewers in single screen theaters will go crazy at this point. There are some great moments in the second half as well, although they could not reach the level of the above mentioned order of the first half. It also gets a bit longer. But it keeps one bound. The finale is powerful and the film ends on a rocking note.

SYA RAA is one of the best cast of Narasimha Reddy but the film is from Chiranjeevi. No doubt about it! He owns the film with his performance and style. It is admirable to see him doing such a good action even at this age. His stardom remains intact and this adds to his character and the film at large. Sudeep is quite good as a mysterious and crooked ruler and will be liked by the audience. Tamannaah Bhatia has a supporting role, but she makes a surprise appearance in the second half. keep in mind! Nayantara gets a very rough deal and the only scene where she leaves an impression is when she confesses her love for Narasimha Reddy. Vijay Sethupathi (Raja Pandi) has entered late but is entertaining. Jagapathi Babu (Veera Reddy) produces effects in the pre-climax. Oscar Skagerberg is excellent as a villain and will be missed, although he is only in the first half. Ravi Kishan and Mukesh Rishi perform well but his voice is dubbed by someone else, which makes his performance a bit awkward. Lakshmi Gopalaswamy (Narasimha Reddy’s mother) is passable. Finally, Amitabh Bachchan is making a special appearance while Anushka Shetty is as impressive as ever.
Amit Trivedi’s music is nothing great but works in the film. ‘Wake up Narasimha wake up’, Initially, fails to make a mark. ‘Sandal Meraa Mann’ Not even memorable. ‘Say Ra’ Comes to an excellent junction and shoots very well. ‘Saansein Teri Desh Hai’ The end credits are played in, but the duration is not felt. Julius Paquim has a better background score and adds to the drama and excitement.
Ratnavelu’s cinematography is at the top and another level in the fight and action sequences. Rajeevan’s production design is quite grand as well as authentic. One of the high points of the action film by Greg Powell, Lee Whitaker, Ram-Laxman and A Vijay. It is good at times but overall good. The costumes of Anju Modi, Sushmita Konidela and Uttara Menon are regal. Srikar Prasad’s editing is quite fast-paced and even careless in places, which could have been avoided.
Overall, SYE RAA Narasimha REDDY is a great patriotic saga and a visual spectacle that leaves a tremendous mark for its plot, Chiranjeevi’s performance and mass execution. It is very likely to succeed at the box office.
