Vidyut Jamwal and Shivaleka Oberoi starrer KHUDA HAAFIZ is a well-crafted action thriller that works mainly because of the script, direction and performance of Vidyut Jamwal and Annu Kapoor.

In the last few weeks, viewers got a chance to watch biopics of extraordinary personalities like Gunjan Saxena and Shakuntala Devi. But these are personalities whose greatness is already known to an extent. There are many who have done incredible feats in their lives and hardly anyone knows about it. Farukh Kabir, who made Allah the Fellow [2010] And a couple of web series in the past, in their latest outing, KHUDA HAAFIZ tells one such story. It stars Vidyut Jamwal, who has created a fan base of his own thanks to his action films. So does KHUDA HAAFIZ manage entertainment and adventure? Or does it fail to impress? Let us analyze.

KHUDA HAAFIZ is the story of an ordinary man whose wife goes missing under mysterious circumstances in a foreign country. In October 2007, Lucknow-based Sameer (Vidyut Jamwal), arranges marriage with Nargis (Shivaleka Oberoi), a software engineer. The two fall in love with each other in no time. Everything is going well till the world comes down. Sameer needs to close his business. Even Nargis is expelled from her workplace. They hunt for jobs but three months pass and they fail to find employment. With no other option, they apply for a job in the Middle-Eastern country of Noman through an agent (Vipin Sharma) of Nadeem. Nargis gets work first and is told to leave for Noman the next day. Sameer is apprehensive but Nadeem assures that he will be safe there. He also tells Sameer that the subsequent job confirmation notice should come within 5-6 days and he can then reunite with his wife. In this way Nargis flew alone to Noman. The next day she calls Sameer and appears distressed. She is crying and she tells him that this is not the work she signed up for. The phone call ended before she could say anything else. A shocked Samir Nadeem’s office as well as the police were boarded up. Nadeem confronts ignorance. Sameer immediately escapes to Noor as Sabah, the capital of Noman, where Nargis finds work. Outside the airport, Sameer meets a kind-hearted taxi driver, Usman Ali Murad (Annu Kapoor), and asks him to take her to Nargis’ workplace address. Usman tells him that this address is incorrect. Noor As Sabah’s police refused to help him until he was cleared by the Indian embassy. He does not get timely help at the embassy as top officer IK Mishra (Ikhlak Khan) is away. Sameer now has only one clue – the phone number from where he got the call from Nargis. From the mobile company, he manages to find out the name and address of the person owning the number. It is learned that there is a person named Parvez Shiraji, who lives in a city called Beth as Saif, 300 km away. Sameer immediately reaches there. Incidentally, it is also Osman’s hometown and he helps her in the search. He learns that Parvez is involved in body trade. Sameer’s world crashes. Nevertheless, he goes to the brothel, implements as a customer and manages to locate Nargis. Dalal (Gauhar Khan) realizes that Sameer knows him and attacks him. Sameer also fights a lot but fails to save Nargis. He and Osman escape and are chased by goons. They almost manage to escape but then meet with a small accident. The police arrested Bhumi for land. What happens next makes the rest of the film.

The story of Faruk Kabir is quite interesting and fit for a commercial film. The first 30-35 minutes may remind one of BAAGHI 3 [2020] Which also dealt with the disappearance of a close family member of Nayak in the Middle-Eastern country. In addition, BAAGHI 3 also discovers the protagonist about her brother’s disappearance while he was on the call with her! Thankfully, once Sameer reaches Noman, the film does not look remotely like the Tiger Shroff starrer. Farukh Kabir’s screenplay is fascinating. The film moves at a great pace and focuses on the plot of the theory from beginning to end. But there are times when the film moves too fast and therefore, one does not get emotionally attached to some characters. The dialogues of Faruk Kabir are decent.

Farukh Kabir’s direction is quite good. On the positive side, the film is quite fast-paced. There are some great dramatic and action moments that maintain interest. Also, the director deserves accolades as he has not added an item song to it, despite the fact that the film is not related to trafficking and sex trade. On the flipside, the film has its own share of cinematic freedom. The way Sameer manages to escape from the brothel and even raises eyebrows from the airport. The very final battle of Sameer could have been thought better. Finally, the courtship period of Sameer and Nargis is shown very early and perhaps a little more time may be taken to explore their relationship for better effect.

KHUDA HAAFIZ begins on an intriguing note. Sameer is already in police possession on foreign land and then the film goes into flashback mode as he narrates his story to an Indian Embassy officer. How did love grow between Sameer and Nargis and their mass marriage. The director soon arrives at the point where Nargis leaves for Noman and how she disappears. Sameer reaches Noman and tries to locate his missing wife. The best part of the first half is clearly when Sameer vandalizes Beth as Saif’s brothel and then escapes dramatically. The entry of Faiz Abu Malik (Shiva Pandit) and Tamanna Hamid (Ahana Kumra) adds to the madness. The film also slips in the middle of the second hour. Once Samir Itzak reaches the place of Ragini (Nawab Shah), he gets involved in the final work. From here to Finale, the film lives on the edge of a seat.

Vidyut Jamwal plays the role of a common man here and does his part action. Performance-wise, he is decent and shines in some emotional scenes. Sadly, in one of two places, he gets a bit over the top. Shivaleka Oberoi did not get much scope, but it is fine and has a good screen. Annu Kapoor is the best and the best. Shiva Pandit, despite his late entry, leaves an impression with his performance and accent. The same goes for Ahana Kumra. Ikhlaq Khan is Paswan. Nawab Shah plays the role of villain well. Vipin Sharma is as reliable as ever. Gauhar Khan, Shahnawaz Pradhan (Sameer’s father), Gargi Patel (Sameer’s mother), Mohit Chauhan (father of Nargis), Suparna Marwah (mother of Nargis), Rio Kapadia (ISA Commissioner Ali Azam Ghazi), Tamara Mirmasudova (Usman’s) Wife) and Kyle Mushal (Sonia Singh; employee at the Indian embassy) are fine.

Mithun’s music is nothing great. There is no scope for music in the film. The title song stands out for a while because the Arabic feel ‘Aakhri Kadam Tak’ Registers little because of the position it has played. ‘Jaan Ban Gaye’ And ‘Mera Intezaar Karna’ Are forgettable. Amar Mohile’s background score is much better and exhilarating. The cinematography of Jeetan Harmeet Singh is superb and is well captured in various places in Uzbekistan. The production design of Bijon Das Gupta, Ranjit Singh and Prerna Kathuria is authentic. The costumes of Divya Gambhir and Nidhi Gambhir are attractive and align with the ethnicity of the character. The action of Ivanov Victor and Andreas Nguyen is very violent and Gary. This is definitely not for the faint hearted. NY VFXWaala’s VFX is appropriate. Sandeep Francis is editing fast.

Overall, KHUDA HAAFIZ is a well-crafted action thriller that works mainly because of the screenplay, direction and performance of Vidyut Jamwal and Annu Kapoor.
