The Congress, Shiv Sena and NCP-led Maha Bikash Agadi government has faced sharp criticism from the BJP over former police commissioner Param Bir Singh’s allegations against the state home minister. Anil Deshmukh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah refrained from confirming news of his meeting with NCP supremo on Sunday Autumn Power“Not everything can be done in public,” he said.
On March 25, Deshmukh wrote a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray seeking an inquiry into allegations of corruption against Param Bir Singh.
Singh wrote a letter to Thackeray alleging that Deshmukh had “misbehaved” and asked suspended Assistant Inspector of Police Sachin Waje to collect ₹100 crore per month.
On March 24, a delegation of BJP leaders led by Devendra Fadnavis, Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, met the Governor and handed over a memorandum saying that the Bikash Agadi government had lost its moral ground and remained in power.
Earlier, on March 20, Fadnavis demanded Deshmukh’s resignation.
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday took Waji to the bridge over the Mithi River on charges of investigating the death of Mansukh Hiran.
NIA divers have recovered a computer CPU, two numbered number plates and other items from the Mithi River at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. Accused Waze was also present at the scene.
Hiran, who was found with an explosive-laden vehicle outside the house of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, was found dead at the police station on March 5. The investigation into his death was carried out by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) until the MHA investigation was handed over to the NIA.
Hiren was in NIA custody until March 25 on charges of placing an explosive-laden vehicle outside the residence of Waze Ambani, an assistant police inspector in the CIA unit in charge of the case.
Later on March 25, a special court of the NIA allowed the agency custody till April 3.
