New Delhi : I want to assure every farmer that the provision of Minimum Support Price (MSP) will continue as before, says PM Narendra Modi On monday.
The Prime Minister was speaking after inaugurating nine infrastructural development projects for Bihar in addition to launching the “Ghar Tak Fiber” project aimed at providing internet connectivity to villages across the country through optical fiber through video conferencing.
“I want to assure every farmer that the MSP system will continue as it was in the past. Like every season, the government is continuing a campaign to buy the product, which will continue,” he said.
“The biggest proof of this is the statistics of government purchases in the last five years and purchases made five years before 2014. If I only talk about oilseeds and pulses, government purchases have increased by 24 per cent,” he added.
The Prime Minister further said that even at the stage of coronavirus epidemic the government has purchased records.
“Farmers were paid for this year’s rabi production, including wheat, rice, oilseeds and pulses ₹1 lakh 13 thousand crore in MSP. This number is thirty percent higher than last year, ”he noted.
He also spoke about how the Prime Minister had formed a Nexus in the country over the years which was benefiting the farmers from their hard work and was now trying to provoke them against the new reforms introduced by the Center.
He also assured that these policies are not anti-Mandis and said his government is committed to modernizing them.
“The new agrarian reforms have given every farmer in the country the freedom to sell their produce anywhere. If he gets more profit in Mandi, he will sell it there. Besides, if he gets more profit elsewhere, he is not barred from selling them there,” Modi said. Said.
“The previous system of selling the produce, which was the law, has tied the hands of the farmers. Under this law, a strong group has been formed which has benefited the plight of the farmers. How long should it be? Let it go?” He added.

He also inaugurated the Ghar Tak Fiber project under which 45,9455 villages in Bihar will be connected through optical fiber internet service.

Meanwhile, speaking during the program, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi had a day earlier objected to the behavior of opposition MPs against Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh.
“The people of Bihar have been hurt by the denial of what happened to him in Parliament yesterday. Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Jit Bihar and the people of Bihar across the country have been injured. The people of Bihar will respond appropriately to the opposition,” he said.
