Center writes letter to Delhi govt over irregularities in identification of COVD vaccinators

The Union Ministry of Health today sent a letter to the GNTTD’s Chief Secretary (Health) to draw attention to irregularities in the identification of COVID vaccination beneficiaries under the age of 45 by some private COVID-19 vaccination centers (CVCs).

In a letter to the Principal Secretary (Health), GNCTD, it was mentioned that there was a serious setback in the registration of beneficiaries by the Bimahans (Vidyasagar Institute of Mental Health, Neuro and Allied Sciences) located in the northern Nehru Nagar area. Delhi East District, operates as a private COVID vaccination center as VMHNS has been registered as Health Care Workers (HCW) and Front Line Workers (FLW) under the age of 45 and has been seen to vaccinate them.

“Under the provisions of the ongoing COVID-I9 vaccination drive, citizens over the age of 45 (as of 1 April 2021) are being vaccinated with health workers (HCWs) and front line workers (FLWs) above the age of 18 years. Coin sample data from vaccinated beneficiaries (l9th March-3 April 2021) revealed that many beneficiaries are outside the scope of eligible beneficiaries (not under the identified priority population) lie in violation of guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Health.

Referring to vaccines as a valuable product, these critical resources at the VMHNS CVC in compliance with the Covid-19 vaccination guidelines harm the nationwide immunization practice because eligible beneficiaries may be deprived of vaccines. The Delhi administration has been asked to immediately notify VVANS of such misconduct because it violates the COVID-19 vaccination rules and will require a written explanation from them within the next 48 hours. Appropriate financial penalties may also be imposed on the hospital. Further, because if the interpretation of the visit notice is not found satisfactory, the hospital may be considered a matter of frustration.

In another case, following the advice of the Union Ministry of Health, the Delhi government has issued a show cause notice for violating the Centre’s guidelines on eligible parties in Bensops Hospital, Sector-12, Dwarka, Delhi. Population for receiving the COVID vaccine, where people under the age of 45 are incorrectly registered as HCW and FLW.
