Mumbai : Veteran Maharashtra leader and NCP chief Sharad Pawar says he is on a one-day hunger strike on Tuesday in protest of the dismissal of eight Rajya Sabha members in the upper house.
“I will also take part in their movement (eight suspended Rajya Sabha MPs). I will fast for one day to show support, ”Sharad Pawar said at a press conference.
Power’s decision came after the deputy chairman of the state assembly declared a fast Harivansh Singh, Who said he was hurt by the behavior of opposition leaders.
NCP chief Harivansh Singh also lashed out at the behavior and decision to “bulldoze” the opposition.
Opposition to boycott Rajya Sabha
Earlier today, Leader of the Opposition in the High Court Ghulam Nabi Azad said that they (members of the Opposition) would address the High Court for the rest of the session until their three demands were met.
Speaking after Zero Hour, Azad said the opposition would boycott the State House and make three demands, including revoking the dismissal of eight MPs. “We will boycott the parliament session until the government agrees to our three demands,” the veteran Congress leader said.
MPs, including TMC leader Derek O’Brien and AAP’s Sanjay Singh, were suspended for the remainder of the current session over “abuse” with the House deputy chairman during the passage of the controversial farm bill on Sunday.
Eight MPs were expelled for expressing their views, Sharad Pawar added, adding that the Vice-Chairman (House) did not prioritize the rules.
