EC road show, bike assembly banned due to Covid-19 spike

In view of the second wave of the Kovid-1p epidemic, the Election Commission has banned public meetings, road shows and bicycle / bicycle gatherings in West Bengal this evening.

By issuing an order today, the ECI has exercised its full powers under Article 324 to immediately effectively ban roadshows, pedestrians and bicycle / bike / vehicle assemblies.

All orders prior to the rally and road show have been revoked and only meetings attended by more than 500 people will be allowed, the Election Commission said.

The ECI has limited the number of persons in any public meeting to 500 for the West Bengal Assembly elections. The ECI said such a public meeting would be approved in accordance with the rules of social distance and the availability of appropriate space in accordance with the Covid-19 guidelines.

Voting for the remaining two phases of the West Bengal Assembly elections will be held on April 26 and 29. The votes will be counted on May 22
