After improving to 12 to 26 weeks before extending the term of maternity benefits, in some cases insured women are not eligible to receive sickness benefits during the corresponding benefit period after receiving maternity benefits. This is because women who are insured under maternity benefits and leave are not required to contribute to the minimum days.
In such cases, it has now been decided that if an insured woman is paid for less than half of the time available to work in such a short period of time, she will be eligible to claim sickness benefit in the corresponding benefit period, it said.
The relaxation will take effect from January 20, 2017, the extended period of maternity benefits.

The ESIC has now decided to increase the Relief for Past Persons (IP) from January 1, 2021 to June 30, 2021 by relaxing the contributing conditions for access to sickness and maternity benefits.
Now, an insured woman would be entitled to receive maternity benefits if her continued contributions could not be paid less than 35 days prior to the two consecutive contributions.
In the case of IPs or IWs appointed before the April-September 2020 contribution period, the eligibility requirement will be decided on the basis of their contribution during the previous contribution period (September 2019-March 2020).
However, IPs or IWs hired during the contribution period (April-September 2020) will be eligible for sickness benefits during the January-June 2020 benefit period if less than half of the contribution amount is payable to them during the contribution period (April-April 2020). For
