Mumbai : Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari accepted the resignation of Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Monday night and handed over the portfolio to NCP Cabinet Minister Dilip Walse Patil, the Raj Bhavan said.
Wallace had a labor and excise portfolio of pots and these have been allocated to other ministers in the NCP.
NCP leader Deshmukh has resigned as home minister after ordering a preliminary CBI probe into allegations of corruption against former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh.
The CMO said in a statement that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had sent a letter to Koshyari requesting him to accept Deshmukh’s resignation.
A statement from Raj Bhavan at night said the governor had accepted Deshmukh’s resignation.
Koshyari also accepted Thackeray’s recommendation to allocate portfolios held by Walse Patel to NCP ministers Hasan Musharraf (labor) and Ajit Pawar (excise), the statement said.
Musharraf is also the Rural Development Minister and Ajit Pawar is the Deputy Chief Minister and also the owner of the finance portfolio.
The NCP is a key component of the Congress as the third ally in the Shiv Sena-led MVA government. PTI MR RSY RSY
