Mamata Banerjee called the farm bill ‘anti-farmer’, saying it would create a food epidemic

On Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that the two farm bills passed in the Rajya Sabha would deprive farmers of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and cause famine in the country.

All opposition parties should unite and fight these bills against teeth and nails, said Banerjee, the top Trinamool Congress leader.

“Even the country is running under COVID-19 Epidemic, the center is trying to create famine through this farm bill, ”he claimed while addressing a press conference.

Banerjee said, “The Center has done nothing to control the rise in prices of essential commodities. It is bulldozing these two anti-agricultural laws. These bills will lead to a food crisis as farmers do not get MSP.”

On Sunday, the government passed two major farm bills, dubbed the biggest agricultural reforms Rajya Sabha Opposition members called for the beleagured PM to resign.
