Prime Minister Modi has called for ‘young friends to vote’ in record numbers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called on the people of West Bengal and Assam to cast their votes in record numbers in the first phase of the 2021 elections.

A few minutes after the start of polling for the 30 seats in West Bengal, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “I would like to request all those who are voting for the seats today to exercise their voting right in record numbers.”

Apart from 9 seats in West Bengal, 4 seats in Purulia, 4 seats in Bankura, 4 seats in Jhargram and all seats in Paschim Medinipur, seats are being elected in Upper-East Purba Medinipur.

In his message on behalf of Assam, Prime Minister Modi tweeted, “The first phase of elections in Assam has begun. Calling on those who are eligible to vote in record numbers. I especially urge my young friends to vote.”

A total of 2,474 candidates are in the fray for 42 seats in Assam – 42 seats from 11 districts in Upper Assam and North Assam and five seats from Nagaon district in central Assam.

The Prime Minister also tweeted in Bengali and Assamese for West Bengal and Assam.
