Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday thanked Gujarat as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came forward to retain power in six municipalities and won 409 of the 4,474 seats declared by evening.
On Twitter, Modi said, “I am grateful to the people of the state for putting their trust in the BJP again. It is always an honor to serve Gujarat.”
He also expressed happiness over the results announced so far and termed the results of the municipality as very special. “It’s remarkable for a team that has been serving a state for more than two decades to record such an incredible win.”
Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed happiness that the results of the municipal corporation survey “show that Gujarat has re-established itself as a stronghold of the BJP,” adding that “today’s results are one of the best in Gujarat.”
“The BJP has won a huge majority in the elections of six municipal corporations in Gujarat. I thank the voters of the six municipal corporations, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, state BJP chief CR Patil and party workers for this success,” BJP chief JP Nadda said.
Polling for 5,576 seats in Ahmedabad and five other civil corporations was held on February 21. The vote count began on Tuesday morning and is still ongoing.
The Congress has so far won 43 of the declared seats, while the newly-entered Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has so far won 18 seats.
He was in favor of 192 seats in Ahmedabad, 722 in Rajkot, 644 in Jamnagar, 52 in Bhavnagar, 76 in Vadodara and 120 in Surat.
AAP fielded 470 candidates across six corporations.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel thanked voters and BJP workers for the results.
“The great victory of the BJP in this election is the victory of the people of Gujarat. This is a great victory of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development politics,” Rupani said.
“The people of Gujarat have provided a topic to political analysts who can now research how the anti-government concept does not work in the state,” he said.
Patel tweeted: “Many thanks and congratulations to all the winning candidates, BJP officers, activists and voters in Gujarat.”
