All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s Kolkata rally to start campaigning for the party ahead of the Bengal Assembly elections has been canceled after police refused permission, party leader Jamirul Hasan told ANI.
The rally is scheduled to be held in the Muslim-dominated Metiabruz area of Kolkata – represented by Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
It is worth mentioning that West Bengal is an important state for AIMIM and Way Sir and AIMIM came to Bengal after a good result of BIM elections; Five of the 20 seats were won by the party.
West Bengal’s 294 assembly constituencies are likely to go to the polls in April-May. However, the Election Commission has not yet announced the final date.
