The Gujarat government will present the ‘Love Jihad’ bill before the Assembly today

Gandhinagar : State Government is ready to amend Gujarat Freedom of Religion Act, 2003 to bring more severe punishment against compulsory conversion through marriage

Speaking to media, Gujarat Home Minister Pradeep Singh Jadeja said, “We are going to amend the Gujarat Independence Religion Act, 2003. Today, we are going to introduce a law before the state assembly which will stop people from persuading Hindu girls. Enter the wedding.

Earlier in February, the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh Illegal Religious Conversion Bill, 2021 was passed by a voice vote by the state assembly.

Following this, another BJP-led government approved the Freedom of Religion Bill 2020 in a special meeting chaired by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

However, on February 4 this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) clarified that the term “love jihad” was not defined under existing law and no such case has been reported so far. No such incident has been reported by the central agencies yet.
